I was invited to take part in a Film Agency Wales funded project to explore if the preproduction process in filmmaking can be made more efficient by an immersive collaboration between people from different creative fields. The ‘Conjured Children’ project was run by Gerald Tyler, whose script the film would be based on, and managed by film producer Nerys Lloyd. Other participants included musicians, filmmakers, an actress and a dancer – my role was to create sample storyboards and illustrate other visual ideas during the process.

The intensive part of the process took place over six days at Penpyrfach farm in West Wales, where we did many test shoots, improvised scenes and movement and discussed the plot and character development till early hours. This immersive creative collaboration was an incredibly eye-opening experience and something that has inspired my working methods and principles.

I invited Laura to work with me on a research and development project for a feature film. She was an invaluable participant and loyal supporter of the project at hand. Her ability to absorb and engage with the artistic vision of others made her a valuable and dependable member of the creative team and I have no reservations at all in recommending her as a partner in any collaborative process. I would and will, go out of my way to find opportunity to work with her in the future.
