Graphic Recording a Community Vision Workshop with TYF

Last week I was asked to help capture a community vision workshop at Felinfoel, Llanelli, organised by TYF. The idea of the workshop was to bring in residents from the Communities First area around Llanelli to discuss what they want from the future in a positive way. The focus was on environmental issues and ideas and part of the workshop was about residents starting to create their own projects to tackle issues they care about in their immediate environment.

You can see more photos and detail on the Flickr set.

Visualising the Trickster archetype

I am delighted to talk briefly about a recent project I have been working on: visualising ‘Tales of the Trickster’ research project funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). The project’s curator Bambo Soyinka approached me after she saw my TedxCardiff sketchnotes online and asked me to help her visualise the outcomes of workshops and the research process. The workshops involved writers and performers exploring questions such as ‘What is the role of the Trickster in storytelling and contemporary society?’ and ‘Using the Trickster as a tool for storytelling across cultural and creative traditions’. Collaboration with an artist and mental health service users

Next week I will be taking part in a workshop providing a space for mental health service users to discuss their thoughts on stigma. The event is organised by artist Julia Thomas whose exhibition ‘Aletheia: In Unconcealment‘ is on at the Arcade Cardiff empty shop gallery space in Queens Arcade, Cardiff.

My role will be to illustrate a graphic recording of the discussion as it unfolds and provide the participants a visual reference point. I’m looking forward to it as I have wanted to see how people from so called vulnerable groups perceive visual facilitation and tools – I will post more about the process afterwards.

Action Network session for Co-production resource

I took part in the second Co-production Resource meeting in Cardiff City Hall in early April – this time my role was to do sketch notes and make a graphic recording of the Action Learning session outcomes. It was nice to see things taking shape a bit more – I look forward to future developments.

Sketchnotes: Co-production resource talks

I attended a fabulous Co-production resource event organised by Ruth Dineen in February. The event included inspiring speakers and a workshop to see how we could set up an action network in Wales and to explore creating a co-production toolkit. Read more…

Graphic recording – designing social enterprises

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to take part in a workshop organised by the Eco Design Centre and Llamau, a charity working with young homeless people in Wales. For some time now Llamau have been helping young people set up social enterprises and the idea of the workshop was to explore what design can do to help this process and give more confidence and focus for the young people to start making things happen. Future visions – are you prepared for change?

Today I took part in a Sustainability Action Planning Workshop organised by Forum for the Future, held at the Watershed in Bristol. The aim of the workshop was to get together a wide range of professionals from the creative industries to discuss future scenarios, their implications and our roles in them. It was interesting to meet different types of creative people and the discussions were thoughtful – however I left with mixed feelings. Read more…
